Renowned fashion illustrator to exhibit work at Art Institute of Colorado | Arts & Culture

Jim Howard, established and innovative fashion illustrator will celebrate an exhibit of his work, Fashion Illustration Then & Now: A Retrospective of Fashion from the ‘70s/’80s and Today, with a reception at The John Jellico Gallery at The Art Institute of Colorado on Thursday, August 19th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
 
Jim Howard’s fashion illustration show exhibits pieces from award-winning advertising cam­paigns of America’s top retail stores, cosmetic companies and advertising agencies during the ‘70s and ‘80s.
 
The show also features his new work, the “Fashionista Series,” fashion-inspired mixed medium collages that fuse real drawings with photography and found items, as well as art from his paper doll illustrations.
 
Just this month Howard’s paper doll book, Four Famous Dandies was featured in The New York Times, praising it as “…a sartorial explosion of color, prints and swish.” A historical illustration, the book showcases the famous dandy fashion of style icons Beau Brummell, Patrick McDonald, The Duke of Windsor and Oscar Wilde. The book was released by Paper Studio Press on August 1, 2010.
 
“It was such fun to do the research!” Howard said.

Howard’s work defines the art of fashion illustration and has garnered many awards and been exhibited in museums and galleries from New York to Chicago, from Texas to Taos. Recently, Jim was invited to donate 39 of his works to the permanent collection of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts.
 
The reception is open to the public at no charge. Guests are invited to browse the artwork while enjoying light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. A portion of the exhibit pieces will be for sale during the reception. The Art Institute of Colorado is located at 1200 Lincoln Street in Denver, CO.
 
Jim Howard’s exhibit will be on display in the gallery from August 20, 2010-September 17, 2010.
