DU to host spring pow wow May 19

The University of Denver’s (DU) Native Student Alliance will host its second annual spring pow wow from 2 – 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19.  This event will showcase Native American drummers and dancers of all ages, representing tribes from across North America. The pow wow is free and open to the public.

“This is a traditional event to bring various native communities together to practice their native dances and wear their traditional regalia,’’ says Johanna Leyba, DU assistant provost for inclusive excellence.  “This is a great opportunity for the DU community to learn about Native American communities today as well as their surviving histories and cultures and traditions.’’

Native nations from throughout the United States and Canada will be represented at the pow wow. More than 15 Native American vendors from Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico will sell handcrafted art and jewelry, and Denver’s Tocabe American Indian Eatery will provide food.

DU to host panel discussion on impact of social media in 2012 presidential campaign

The University of Denver (DU) will host a panel of political and media experts at its New Media Influence on Campaign Politics event to be held 2-4 p.m. Friday, May 11. Panelist will discuss the impact and implications of new media on the 2012 presidential campaign.   

Colorado Ballet announces 2012-2013 Season

Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs announced the 2012-2013 season, which will feature technically-challenging classical ballet with innovative contemporary premieres.  Marking the Company’s 52nd season, the four-production lineup will stay true to Boggs’ artistic vision of presenting superior quality classical ballet and innovative dance.

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is pleased to announce the launch of Creating Your Community (CYC) a new interactive website that allows people to share their stories, upload images and create their own community all while preserving Colorado history.

The Arc of Colorado Celebrates Developmental Disability Awareness Month with Film Festival

 

In celebration of Developmental Disability Awareness Month, The Arc of Colorado and its 11 local chapters will host a film festival featuring short films starring or produced by people with developmental disabilities. The festival will be held at the Denver Film Center on Colfax on Tuesday, March 20.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science hosts Slithering Spring Break March 24 through April 1st

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science invites families and visitors of all ages to enjoy a Slithering Spring Break from Saturday, March 24, to Sunday, April 1. The weeklong event celebrates the Museum’s new temporary exhibition Lizards & Snakes, which features 60 live animals from all over the world. Participants will experience reptile fun throughout the Museum, including reptile-themed games, art projects, live animal demonstrations, and more.
