Bill passed House that grants students credit for work and military experience at state colleges | News
The House of Representatives passed House Bill 1072 today, which will grant students at state colleges and universities credit for work and military experience.
The measure, sponsored by state Rep. Tom Massey requires the Commission on Higher Education to develop criteria that allows students enrolled in institutions of higher learning to be given academic credit for prior real world experience. Examples of this include work experience, military service, community involvement, or other experiences gained prior to enrollment in an institution of higher education.
“By giving credit to students who have real world experience, we will help them save on costs and the amount of time it takes to earn a degree. This bill will help students striving to create a better life for themselves and their families,” said Massey, R-Poncha Springs.
House Bill 1072, is cosponsored by Rep. Rhonda Fields, D-Aurora. The measure now moves to the state Senate for further consideration, where it will be carried by Sens. Keith King, R-Colorado Springs, and Bob Bacon, D-Fort Collins.
