Denver Animal Shelter reduces dog and cat vaccination fees Sept. 28 in honor of World Rabies Day | Pets

On September 28, the Denver Animal Shelter will host a special reduced cost vaccination clinic for both dogs and cats from 2 to 5 p.m. in honor of World Rabies Day. 

Rabies, a distemper/parvo vaccination, and a one-year license for Denver County residents or out of county residents that use Denver dog parks, will be offered for just $25, $10 less than the regular cost of the shelter’s vaccination/license package. 
Rabies is a viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal that infects the central nervous system of mammals and causes encephalopathy (altering brain function) and ultimately death. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, “there is no treatment for rabies after symptoms of the disease appear.” In Denver, pets 6 months or older are required to be licensed and vaccinated for rabies. 

Although the majority of rabies cases occur in wildlife, most humans are exposed to the virus as a result of an encounter with an infected domestic animal. Keeping pets, including cats and dogs, up-to-date on vaccinations, helps prevent rabies in humans and domestic animals. The Denver Animal Shelter is recognizing World Rabies Day by offering this special vaccination clinic and reducing rates to ensure pets are vaccinated. You do not have to be a resident of the City and County of Denver to receive a vaccination for your pet.  Dogs must be on a leash when you arrive at the clinic and cats must arrive in a carrier and/or cat taxi.  Please muzzle pets that may be vicious or unpredictable toward people or other animals.

The Denver Animal Shelter hosts vaccination clinics, every Wednesday for dogs from 2:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and every Thursday for cats from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Regularly, these clinics cost $35.
