Parents of the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy demand that administrators are reinstated | Schools

Parents and students of the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy will be protesting and marching outside of the school from 4:45 PM – 5:30 PM. The Board of Trustees of the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, a K-6 college preparatory public charter school in Denver, Colorado, has placed their school leadership and their Chess Director on leave for unknown reasons.  Under this leadership, the school has truly managed to close the achievement gap.  The students can be classified as 90% receive free/reduced lunch, 80% are English Language Learners, and 95% are students of color, yet the school is posting some of the highest CSAP scores in the State and the top scores in our district!  Please view http://www.greatschools.org/colorado/westminster/2579-Ricardo-Flores-Magon-Academy/ to see our national ranking and view  http://www.coloradoschoolgrades.com/SchoolReportCard.aspx?sid=7278E to see our state ranking.      

In a day and age where schools place extreme importance on proving their academic results, the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy has done just that, and instead of the leadership being complimented, they are being lambasted.  The leadership has won awards from the Colorado Department of Education such as the John Irwin Schools of Excellence Award as well as the Centers of Excellence Award.  These awards are only given to the top achieving schools in Colorado, and now the leaders are being placed on leave because they take education too serious and are too rigorous.

The parents and the community are not going to stand for this, and are doing whatever is in their rights to fight the board of trustees and bring their leaders back to the school.  The parents have been gathering signatures to let the board of trustees know that if the three administrators are not reinstated, parents will pull their children out of the school. 

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 4:45 PM – 5:30 PM, parents and students will be protesting and marching in front of the school at the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, 5301 Lowell Blvd., Denver, CO 80221.
